I have written an article about the documentary Before the Flood.
"Before the Flood" is a 2016 documentary about climate change featuring Leonardo DiCaprio, an Academy Award-winning actor, environmental activist and U.N. Messenger of Peace.
Leonardo DiCaprio starts the film by discussing a painting he saw as a child called "The Garden of Earthly Delights" by Hieronymus Bosch. It is a painting from around 1500 that is divided into three sections:
The left side: Adam & Eve appear in the Garden of Eden with animals in the background.
The middle: there are overpopulation and the seven deadly sins, along with debauchery and excess.
The right side: the most nightmarish one with a twisted, decayed, burnt landscape. "A paradise that has been degraded and destroyed," as described by DiCaprio.
The film "Before the Flood" then transitions to scenes of pollution, and in my opinion, it is a pretty compelling opening to the film. This picture can serve as a warning to what is currently happening on our planet - the climate crisis.
The 11th Hour
Another documentary featuring Leonardo DiCaprio is The 11th Hour.
"The 11th Hour" is a groundbreaking documentary released in 2007 that has significantly raised global awareness about the urgent need to address environmental issues. Directed by Leila Conners Petersen and Nadia Conners and narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio, this thought-provoking film presents a stark portrayal of the current state of our planet and the potential consequences if we fail to take action. Through its compelling narrative and powerful visuals, "The 11th Hour" has effectively spread awareness and inspired individuals and communities to address our current environmental challenges.
This film debuted at the prestigious 60th Annual Cannes Film Festival from May 16 to 27, 2007. Subsequently, it was officially released on August 17, 2007. Interestingly, this release year coincided with the publication of the Fourth Assessment Report by the United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which focused on global warming. Additionally, it followed the release of Al Gore's renowned documentary "An Inconvenient Truth," which also addressed the issue of global warming by approximately a year.
